More about Modems ...

The General tab under Modem Properties lists all of
the modems currently installed on the system and the
default dialing location. A series of buttons for each
modem type lets you inspect or reconfigure their port
assignment, maximum speed, and speaker volume. The Modem
component also controls data bits, stop bits and parity,
along with Call Preferences. You can wait for a tone
before dialing, cancel the call if not connected in 60
seconds, and disconnect a call if the line is idle for a
proscribed time. The first feature will be handy for
those who use a line for voice and data, and will prevent
annoying tonal interruptions if someone is on the
extension. (These options are accessed on the Connection
tab under Properties for each individual modem.)

The Dialing Properties option contains options to
select tone or pulse, use a calling card, disable call
waiting, or dial any other special access codes.

Advanced Settings govern flow control, error
control, modulation type and any extra settings. This box
also has a checkbox to create a log file to measure all
    modem activity.
