I've been a freelance computer consultant and journalist for a number of years. Last Spring, I got a chance to combine the two careers for awhile. The gig started out with my writing a couple of stories for modem geeks on how to Optimize Your Internet Connection . These features generated enough hits for CMP Media that they requested I assume the mantle of Dr. Speed, mystic master of modem arts. When I wore his helm, Dr. Speed expanded his see, providing tips that banished more generic Windows 95 annoyances, along with telecommunications demons.
12-99: The tips links on the CMP site have finally disappeared, alas. But I'm at it again over at PC World.
